This blog is a journal of our struggles with food allergies and eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases (EGIDs). ("DD" stands for "dear daughter", so whenever you see it in the blog it is referring to my daughter and our personal experience.) My hope is for this blog to be a source of information and support to others who might be trying to investigate, diagnose, treat, or live with, food allergies and EGIDs. Hidden egg

Here are some hidden egg ingredients to watch out for -

Always contains egg:
  • albumin/albumen
  • globulin
  • livetins
  • lysozyme
  • ovalbumin
  • ovamucin
  • ovamucoid
  • ovoglobulin
  • ovovitellin
  • Simplesse
  • vitellin
  • yolk
May contain egg:
  • binder
  • coagulant
  • emulsifier
  • flavorings ("natural flavor" or "artificial flavor") or seasonings
  • lecithin
  • white wine, beer, or root beer (often 'washed' with egg whites)
Common sources of egg:
  • baby food
  • baked goods
  • breakfast cereals
  • candy (nougat, divinity, white chocolate)
  • creamy fillings
  • custard
  • ice cream
  • malted cocoa drinks
  • marshmallows
  • mayonnaise
  • meringue
  • pasta
  • processed meat
  • salad dressings (especially Caesar)
  • sauces (hollandaise, bearnaise, newburg)
  • sherbets
  • soups
  • specialty coffee, coffee flavoring
  • tartar sauce
