Welcome to my blog!

This blog is a journal of our struggles with food allergies and eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases (EGIDs). ("DD" stands for "dear daughter", so whenever you see it in the blog it is referring to my daughter and our personal experience.) My hope is for this blog to be a source of information and support to others who might be trying to investigate, diagnose, treat, or live with, food allergies and EGIDs. Hidden corn

Corn is a sneaky one!! It is in SO many packaged or processed foods. This was by far the hardest thing for me to eliminate from my diet.

Here are some hidden corn ingredients to watch out for -
  • ascorbic acid (Vitamin C)
  • aspartame
  • caramel color
  • citric acid
  • corn syrup, corn syrup solids, high fructose corn syrup
  • dextrose
  • matrodextrin
  • methylcellulose
  • natural flavors, flavorings or seasonings
  • sorbitol
  • saccharine
  • xanthan gum
  • xylitol
Common source of corn:
  • adhesives (like the strip on an envelope or stamp, or in things like stickers and band-aids)
  • applesauce
  • alcohol
  • baking powder
  • baking mixes
  • bread
  • cereal
  • canned fruit
  • chips
  • coffee creamer
  • condiments
  • cough syrup
  • drink mixes
  • ice cream
  • instant coffee
  • jello
  • jams/jellies
  • marshmallows
  • mayonnaise
  • powdered sugar
  • processed meat
  • salad dressings, sauces
  • soft drinks
  • vanilla extract
  • white vinegar
